Moving is
one of those irritating tasks that I hated all my life. There is so much to do,
so many things to look at, that there is no scope of making mistakes.
Thankfully, you can use professional mover and packer services these days, but still there are many items that you
can’t really hand over to the mover, and have to carry with yourself.
If you have
hired a moving service, they will take care of most of the packing, but there
are few valuable and essential items that you have to keep with you while moving.
Well, here I
am talking mostly about the essential box and some other necessary items. The
main reason behind this is that you need to keep the essential items stored
inside the essential box with you as they will help you survive the initial
hours in the new home especially if your other belongings reach your new
destination late.
After all,
you never know what happens on road so better to keep some of the essentials
with you. Moreover, keeping some of the essentials with you will also help make
your own travel comfortable for you.
In addition
to that, we all possess some belongings which we cannot afford to lose at any
cost. It is not that the mover and packer will lose or damage your items deliberately,
but some things are safer when kept with us. In fact, professional moving companies also suggest that you carry the
valuable and essentials with yourself, instead of sending it through the
transport.
Want to know
the list of things to keep with you when moving? Well, then, let's start.
1. Important documents- Important
documents like your educational documents, your professional documents,
passport, bank related documents, your cards etc. are something you cannot
afford to lose, so it is better you keep them by your side when travelling to
your new place.
2. Food and water- Undoubtedly, you will
have to keep some non-perishable snacks and lots of water with you while
travelling. Now, you may eat from any nearby restaurants and all but you can
never be sure of their availability, so better carry enough food and water with
you. Moreover, taking too many meal breaks will also waste your time, so you
may avoid that and try to reach the new destination as early as possible.
In fact, if you have kids and pets with you, taking their
food in adequate amounts are mandatory. So why not take yours as well.
3. Emergency items- Emergency can happen
any time, so it is advisable that you keep your first aid kit and other
emergency items with you throughout the journey. This will definitely include
medicines, prescriptions, band aids, antiseptics, scissors, chargers, mobile,
extra specks etc. with you.
4. Cash- Well, I know that you have your
cards but I will recommend keeping some cash with you while travelling. This is
because you never know you may end up in a place where cash transactions are
only valid, and there may not even be an ATM nearby, so it is better to be
safe.
5. Extra clothes- Do keep at least an
extra pair of clothes with you along with an extra pair of shoes, socks,
sweater and gloves (depending on weather). As far as undergarments are
concerned, carry them in more numbers. You may need them anytime.
6. Toiletries- Do keep some of your
basic toiletries and personal care stuffs with you. You will need them to freshen
up both during and after the relocation.
7. Keys- Obviously, this is something
which must be kept with you and not with the movers. This includes all your
essential keys starting from home keys to car keys.

Packing your
items forms an important aspect of moving. However, while packing, make sure
you pack certain essential stuffs separately because you need to carry them
with you while moving. Like for example, it is best to keep important stuffs
like essential documents, first aid items, food, water, cash, extra clothes,
toiletries and keys with you to keep them secure as well as to make your
journey easier and more comfortable.
I always
follow this simple packing and moving tip when relocating, and I am sure if you keep these essentials with you
when relocating, it’s going to help you in many ways.
